Man rescued from flat fire in Hunslet area

Friday 21st September

A flat fire occured in Hunslet today and a man was rescued by fire fighters who entered the building using using breathing apparatus. (6 sets of breathing apparatus and 2 hose reels to be precise) The entire property was engulfed by the fire.

Yet another member of the West Yorkshire Community that owes their life to West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue.  Crews from HUNSLET and MORLEY attended....

Rather ironic as both of these stations are DUE TO BE AXED in the current round of proposals that are out for consultation .

100% fire is serious. And the stats say this type of fire is going down? Somebody is massaging the figures.

massaging the figures....ha! thats a laugh, have a look at the Performance management system and "Total activity" at stations earmarked for closures, most are between 50 and 100 incidents short, it appears management don't count fire engines going out of their own station areas as "Total activity".....

is there an FOI request we could put in to rectify that and get the figures into the public domain? What wording would we need to use?

Station cat noticed a couple of nice motors on Haworth station yard last night,£100,000 the pair unfortunately the occupants had to deploy the last quarter of a mile in the station van to the meeting.
6x nice motors = Haworth pump on run for a year, just a thought, Meow Meow.

I assume the station cat at Howarth is a pedigree not some manky old moggy....... These cars i assume would be leased by WYFRS for the occupants of said van.

Station cat is a fine feline thank you.
Leased or not the cars of quality would have probably sent the wrong message to Mr & Mrs Public of Haworth, much better to travel in the humble van and let the public know that were all in it together.

Well we are all in it together - up the creak without a paddle if Simon Pilling has his way..... anyway do give Tiddles a rub behind the ears from me - its information has just got the blog 200 hits in less than 20 mins. I will send it a tin of sardines via Dave W.

News coming in says Shipley and Idle attended a fire at an aged persons home.
Aged person had drooped his fag end in the bin before departing for his morning paper.
alarms go off, Shipley and Idle attend, entry is forced, fire put out, positive pressure ventilation carried out, all in all a standard job.
both crews just want to state that as they are due to go, another five minutes on the attendance times would make this a serious fire.

My Feline friend " Idle cat"(she hates been called Idle) reports that at the public meeting in Baildon last night once again the prestige motors were kept under wraps and the station van was the order of the day for WYFRS.
Sure when I was curled up at Haworth I overheard the troops saying the cars could be justified for there bad weather performance and there ability to deliver the occupant come what may.
You'd have thought they would want to show them off.

Thank you - please tell Idle cat her observations are much appreciated. And if there are any other station cats hanging around (i am lead to believe they are mandatory at every station) can you get one of your feline friends to get the make and models.

Fairweather Green busy last night, usual seasonal rubbish plus two early morning house fires, one cooking and one in a garage.
Both two pump incidents.
Right in the area were if the cuts go through it would have been one pump waiting a good while for help.

Keighley public meeting, 29-10-12
Poor start for all concerned, 17.30 is hardly the time for the average working person to attend and then add the fact that the Keighley news printed the wrong time for the meeting(18.00) and the chair on the night indicated that the meeting room had to be vacated by 18.45 due to a booking for another meeting but we could voice our concerns in the bar area if we wished.
Decent debate followed but once the gravity of the cuts sank in one Keighley councilor asked the all important question of why WYFRS were not taking minutes has how would they remember what to take back to the CFO, fair point I agree, but lets ask the question why were Keighley council not taking minutes?
Its a good job the FBU was taking minutes and are available

Station cat informs me that the new home for the control unit is to small and WYFRS have been busy with the tape measure at various stations.
I'd have thought that if all the research WYFRS paid for said station X is were it should be sited for logistical reasons they would have stuck with that.Meow Meow

We will have to hope they dont use the same tape measure they used to calculate the size of lift doors needed at Birkenshaw then.....or they will be in trouble

Odsal station cat was listening to the CFO on his recent visit.
He compared fire cover to car insurance.
we used to have fully comprehensive said the chief,
And now we have third party fire and theft said one of the troops,
No said the chief, just third party.
Bet Mr & Mrs Public would be pleased to be paying for that.meow meow
